Ever since he sold his marital home in the guard-gated Mulholland Estates community for $8,700,000 to — as Yolanda first revealed — rapper Big Sean, Yolanda has wondered to where our ol’ rocker boy/guitarist extraordinaire Slash had vanished. And after some extensive sniffin’ around (and a helpful hand from our friend Vlad the Revealer at Celebrity Address Aerial), we have tracked him down to the very suburban yet quietly celeb-flooded San Fernando Valley community of Encino.
Encino, y’all see, is a generally quiet bedroom community that has become an increasingly popular choice for moneyed and family-oriented celebrities. Our Mr. Slash — birth name Saul Hudson — has splashed the cash on a $6,250,000 new spec-mansion compound with a total of 9,400-square-feet of living space. Not much of a downgrade from his old 11,000-square-foot 90210 mansion, is it?
The house sits on a .72-acre corner lot in a prime south-of-Ventura Boulevard area of Encino. Naturally, the entire property perimeter is completely walled, gated, and camera-armed for the utmost security and protection. Two driveway gates silently glide open to reveal the wraparound motorcourt and front-facing three car garage.
Main living areas in the structure — let’s call it a Traditional with a trendy contemporary twist — are set off by brushed white oak flooring. Up front is a high-ceilinged living room with a fireplace, around this or that corner is a cozier family room (also with a fireplace) that features one of those chic walls of glass.
The family room conveniently opens directly to the kitchen. Now, kiddies, Yolanda is used to seeing fancy kitchens in these new mansions, but this has got to be one of the swankiest we’ve beholden. Check out that enormous SubZero refrigeration unit, which features a center wine cooler. That’s a monster!
Also in the kitchen is a giant Wolf range and two center islands, both with Calacutta marble countertops (the second island features six bar-style chairs).
Recreational amenities include a home theater/screening room, a game room (with an air hockey table), and a home office/library with a disappearing glass doors that bring in the sunshine. Beyond is a covered loggia with lounge-style outdoor furniture.
The residence has a total of 6 beds and 9 baths (or 10 baths, depending on where you look). The upstairs master suite features a sitting area, an outdoor balcony, a bathroom with party-sized shower, and a designer-done walk-in closet with custom cabinetry. Looks fancier than many of our Rodeo Drive boutiques, actually.
The flat lot provides space for many outdoor leisure activities, and the developers took full advantage of this: there’s a half basketball court, a backyard kitchen/BBQ area, a sparkling (if surprisingly small) pool, and not one but two accessory structures: a poolside cabana with a bathroom and changing facilities, and a petite guest house with one bedroom suite.
For what it’s worth, Mr. Slash’s new house is only about three miles from the new (and strikingly similar-lookin’) Sherman Oaks mansion that his Guns N’ Roses bandmate Duff McKagan bought almost exactly a year ago.
And as for the ex-Mrs. Slash (aka Perla Hudson), she has also decamped Mulholland Estates as their epic, years-long divorce case drags on. Despite the acrimonious battle, the pair don’t seem to have any issue living in the same neighborhood. Records show that at approximately the same time he bought his new $6.25 million pad, Mr. Slash (through a blind trust) also forked out $3,475,000 for a big 1991-built mansion (also in Encino) for his ex-love. The 6,113-square-foot home has a kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances, a 900-square-foot master suite, and a heated pool/spa combo.
As they say: keep your friends close, your enemies closer, and next time don’t forget to sign that prenup.
