It was barely one year ago — last January (2018), in fact — that soon-to-be-retired pro baseball star Jimmy Rollins broke the Encino sales price record with a $10,650,000 splurge. His spec-built monster mansion weighs in at nearly 15,000-square-feet of living space, dwarfing all the surrounding homes.
Oddly enough, it seems that Mr. Rollins’ record-breaking new manse isn’t good enough for him — or something — because he’s back for second helpings at the real estate rodeo. Another enormous new mansion just sold for a fat $8,700,000 — the second-biggest number ever paid for a home in Encino. And the buyer, again, is our boy Mr. Rollins.

Bizarre? It gets stranger. The $8.7 million home is just around the corner and up the street from the $10.65 million one. It’s probably a three-minute jog away, if that.
Does Mr. Rollins need more space? Is he getting into the house-flippin’ game? Does he see these high-maintenance beasts as good investments? We haven’t the foggiest notion! But yes, Mr. Rollins now owns the two most expensive homes in Encino. He’s the king of that particular San Fernando Valley jungle.

Jimmy “J-Roll” Rollins is a former professional baseball shortstop best-known for playing with the the Philadelphia Phillies from 2000 to 2014, during which time he was named the National LeagueMost Valuable Player. He’s also (briefly) played for the Dodgers and the Chicago White Sox. With his longtime wife Johari, Mr. Rollins has three young daughters.
And at least one site alleges that the 40-year-old Oakland native has a net worth of $40 million. So homeboy’s got the cash to splurge on $19,350,000 worth of Encino luxury real estate, apparently.

The blocky contemporary was freshly completed in 2018 and built by a local developer. Sited on a nearly triangular corner lot that spans just over half an acre, the mini-estate features a total of 11,000-square-feet of snazzy interior spaces (including a 1,400-square-foot detached guesthouse).
There’s a pool, lawns front and rear, a three-car garage, and a gated motorcourt with additional off-street parking for 6+ vehicles. The hillside property is ringed by palm trees. And best of all, there’s a 3,000-square-foot rooftop deck for eyeballin’ the valley views.

Yolanda appreciates how the developer infused the home’s chic decor with some warmth — the white walls and ceilings are mixed with honey-hued hardwood floors, copper-colored ornamental chandeliers and certain spaces done up in a daring charcoal paint. Disappearing walls of glass and about 15,000 recessed LEDs bathe the main floor in light.

The kitchen goes glam with two traincar-sized center islands — one equipped with bar-style seating — top-of-the-line appliances and a very large wine cooler. Elsewhere are a variety of R&R spaces — the media room, covered terraces, sprawling backyard patios.

In the main house are 7 beds and 8.25 baths. The master includes a fireplace and private deck overlooking the backyard. There’s also a sitting room with writing desks (and another wine fridge) plus dual walk-in closets, each one large enough to accommodate a hardcore fashionista’s designer wardrobe. A mammoth bathroom with soaking tub and a glassy shower swathed in marble complete the offering.

The two-story guest house features an additional 2 beds and 2.5 baths plus a full kitchen with stainless appliances and a surprisingly large living room.
Back in the main house, an elevator transports awestruck guests to the rooftop deck, which features artificial turf and built-in seating for al fresco dining or a quiet moment of reflection, as it were.
